Experts warn of a water crisis in Erbil

Water experts warned on Saturday of a deadly drought crisis that Erbil will face in the coming years.

The experts say that the water crisis that occurred this year in Erbil is a prelude to a bigger crisis that the region's governorates will witness if the crisis is not addressed, which is the issue of encroachment on groundwater.

They add that Erbil has begun to lose its groundwater reserves due to illegal well drilling operations, and therefore we are facing a major crisis, especially since some wells have been drilled 90 meters deep to reach the water, which means a major disaster, as the city has begun to lose its reserves.
