Diplomatic Journalist Arrested on Mullah Yasin And Tawana Kamal’s Complaint
2022-09-28

A diplomatic journalist has been arrested and imprisoned on the complaint of Mullah Yasin, spokesman of the Kurdistan Investors Union, and Tawana Kamal, the former mayor of Sulaimani.

On the complaint of Mullah Yasin, spokesman of the Kurdistan Investors Union, and Tawana Kamal, former mayor of Sulaimani, Bashdar Baziani, the producer of the Black Box program in Diplomatic, was arrested.

Mullah Yasin's complaint is against him for selling project papers, while Tawana Kamal's complaint is against a report on bribery in Sulaimani municipalities.

The judge ordered Bashdar Baziani to be detained for 10 days without referring to the Journalism Law and based on the Iraqi Penal Code.

In his complaint, Mullah Yasin claims that his name has been defamed and demands 25 million dinars in compensation.

Tawana Kamal, who is currently in prison on charges of land allocation in Sulaimani, has filed a complaint against the diplomatic journalist for naming him in a report when he mentioned taking bribes.

The Diplomatic Media Institute will not remain silent about the arrest of its journalist and will inform all governmental and non-governmental organizations at the domestic and international levels.

The decision to arrest and imprison a journalist under the Iraqi Penal Code leaves no value for the law of the press in Kurdistan.

We also declare that what the judge did was part of hatred and revenge against journalists, which is what some capitalists and the court are doing together against journalists.
